Santa has arrived!

Filed under: kid stuff — admin @ 10:31 pm

We went to the mall Wednesday and Santa was there!  Aden screamed/cried when Santa walked by us, but then cool when it was time to get a picture!  Ava couldn’t wait to see him and Sofie was not really sure what to think!

2 more days! November 21, 2007

Filed under: kid stuff — admin @ 9:26 am

Friday is our day to set up the christmas tree.  The kids are so excited and actually have been waiting patiently.  Of course they noticed the dozen homes around the area that put up their xmas stuff 2 weeks ago!!!!  But I explained how we do it the day after Thanksgiving….and they accepted it!  We have a ton of lights that never get used, so I’m going to decorate the back yard!  Try and make it a winter wonderland….maybe get some fake snow?!?!?!

alternative (holistic) care November 13, 2007

Filed under: mommy stuff, kid stuff — admin @ 8:43 am

why not try an alternative way to treat colic, ear infections, reflux and other common reoccurring problems with infants and toodlers?? Or just to get your back and neck in line to avoid pain?!?!?!?! I’ve always been a “believer” in chiropractic…..from what my parents say they resolved an issue I was having when a was just about a year old with asthma. This was 34 years ago! A friend introduced me to a pediatric chiro 2 years ago. I’m not hard core holistic, but I do think that our bodies need to be aligned and the energy flowing to work and feel better. I started back with a chiro with my first pregnancy….and have been going again recently. I noticed a big difference after I started working up at the school. Holding all those kids, picking them up and putting them down….ouch!

flu shots November 9, 2007

Filed under: in the news, mommy stuff, kid stuff — admin @ 4:27 pm

I decided this year to get us flu shots.  I’m not against them, just a personal preference not to.  As many other things lately….I’ve “changed” my mind.  I took all 3 kids and myself this morning, not so  much fun.  all 3 cried….screamed at first.  Ava, my darling drama queen was the worst.  It went on and on with her.  Thank God for Aunt Patti to save the day and make it all better, and Ava’s best friend Skylar as a bribe!!!!!  Aunt Patti told Ava she couldn’t play with Skylar on the playground unless she went back to class (yes, we got the shots before class).  We are all a little sore from the shot.  Used tylenol on all of us.  the best part, they get to do it all over again in 1 month.  Since it is their first flu shot they have to split the dose, half now and half in a month!  YIPPEE!  and Ava is due for her 4 yr old vaccines.  it sucks that she is so sensitive to pain and such!

why did I change my mind….I’m in class 2 days a week with 10 - 12 other kids and so is Sofie.  Just figured I could protect myself against ONE thing.  If you don’t know, the flu shot is only a certain string on the virus….there could be many different strings this season that we are not protected against.  as I said, at least I’m protected against one thing!  KNOCK ON WOOD….we have been pretty lucky in the past.  Let’s hope this is a good season too!!!!!!!

pros and cons October 16, 2007

Lifetime Fitness decided to increase their rates, $6 per junior kid.  That would have been an additional $18 a month on top of what we were already paying.  We were cool with paying the higher rates because Lifetime does provide massive benefits.  But when it comes down to it, and I can save $50 a month on a family membership at LA Fitness….I’m switching.  I hardly used the pool at lifetime, which really was the only added benefit for us.  The child care center at Lifetime is top of line, but my kids are only there for an hour out of the day.  LA Fitness has an adequate child care center…and they allow snacks and drinks.  HUGE!  I noticed the other day when I was there, the pilates class….there were 8 people.  The instructor was helping one on one with everyone.  You never got that at Lifetime.  All Lifetime group fitness classes were packed, if you didn’t arrive 15 minutes early, you were not getting a spot in that class.  I hated how packed every class was.  Pros and cons to it all…it’s whatever you are up for.

branded!

Filed under: mommy stuff, kid stuff — admin @ 12:20 am

I once thought it would be a privilege to have your ears pierced, thinking by age 4 the girl would be ready to do it.  I took Ava and Sofie to get their ears pierced, but Ava wanted nothing to do with it.   Sofie walked away with CZ earrings, cute as can be!  Ava tells me she will be 18 when she gets her ears pierced.  Too funny!  So we will wait for Ava, in the mean time….Sofie is branded!!!

putting it all in context October 12, 2007

Ava (just turned 4 yrs old) has some difficulty with her speech articulation/phonology.  It’s something we noticed ever since she started talking, it’s hard to understand her.  But she never “out grew” it and it gets frustrating not being able to understand her.  I can tell she gets frustrated too!  I was always saying WHAT after everything she said, that Ava and Aden thought it was normal to reply to someone talking to them with WHAT, even if they heard them.  That was very annoying, thank god we all got over it.  In May we took her in for some testing and she was accepted to receive speech therapy through the school district.   I take her twice a week for 20 minutes.  She started 5 weeks ago, we haven’t seen any improvement yet…but I’m not worried.  She has missed 4 sessions for different reasons.  But I was able to sit in on a couple sessions, so we can work with her at home too.  Tonight Ron was able to get her to sound V, she typically substitutes the sound B  for V.  Like in Ava…she says Aba.  Some of the terms they use in therapy are fronting, backing, and clusters…that’s some of her difficulty.  Instead of saying CUP, she says TUP…or LOCK is LOT.  She has a hard time with S words, like SPIDER and SNOW…she leaves the S off.  Hopefully with her being in Pre-K classes 3 times a week and the speech therapy, within a year we will see great improvement.  We also have to watch Aden, he learns from her and has picked up her sounds.  He does talk better than her, but he still says/repeats what she says.  I’m sure it will be an issue with Sofie too, she’s about to start talking!  It sucks when Ava has to repeat her self several times and I still don’t understand what she is saying….then like 5 mintues later it will hit me what she was talking about (putting it all in context).

Back Tracking!

It’s been almost 2 years since I’ve updated our family/friend website of pictures.  With the exception of a shower we had several months ago.  I don’t know what happened, I used to be so good at updating the website almost daily.  I guess 2 kids…now 3 really do take up a lot of time!  Ava and Aden’s website are horrible, so out of date!  Sofie’s blog is not that bad because she has only been around for a little over a year!  Today I updated it with some pictures from the Arboretum Pumpkin Patch, a weekly playgroup.  It’s now one of my top priorities to get the website back up to date and try my best to keep it current!  Another big challenge!  You can take a look by clicking the links under BLOGROLL.

recall on infant cough/cold medicine October 11, 2007

has anyone ever benefited from cough/cold medicine???  I’ve used it maybe twice on my kids and it never seemed to make a difference.  My thought is, why pump them with meds that don’t make a difference.  I’m so glad I haven’t continued to use these products.  I’m sure the homeopathic industry is loving this bad pub on the pharmaceuticals!!!
